Why we picked this product:

A reissue of the Braun calculator from the Rams era — the coloured keys and the flat slab, unchanged. Eight digits and no ambitions past them.

More about it

What it is

A standard-function pocket calculator with an 8-digit LCD, made as a current replica of the Braun ET66. The original was designed jointly by Dietrich Lubs and Dieter Rams and launched in 1987, known for its plain rectangular body and convex round keys. It switches itself off automatically and comes with a hard-shell sliding cover.

Who it suits

Suits desks where everyday sums are the whole job, and people who want a design-history object they will actually use. Anyone needing scientific, financial or graphing functions should look elsewhere, since this handles standard arithmetic only.

Good to know

It measures 16 x 6 cm and weighs 170 g, with a plastic housing in black; the model number is BNE001BK. It runs on one LR44 battery, which is included along with a manual. The display is listed at 1.52 cm. It is made in China, and EU spare parts are listed as available for 2 years.
